If you print a walker that's super focused on a single archetype that doesn't suck, that archetype from that set is going to remain dominant unless a counter unseats it. To put it another way, each set in some form dictates part of the standard meta, but it's their interactions with the other sets in standard that makes the format work. Almost every time one of those is printed, it becomes a de-facto T1 deck (as happened with Orzhov Vampires), and if it doesn't, the planeswalker never features in any games. You had to wait 1 turn because he disabled instants. Teferi was impossible to kill when it hit the board. Maybe it is because 2019 - 2020 PWs were broken and I can't help comparing them but I don't think we're in a bad spot. You don't feel like you've already lost when they hit the board, you can play around them and, also important, whenever they use their minus abilities you can always kill them with damage removal. However, the ones in standard right now are just well balanced ones. PWs as cards are definitely some of the most annoying cards to play against. |
